8am – Setting the navigation system to Kulmbach, Plassenburg – to visit the opening of the annual exhibition of the „Bun(t)d fränkischer Künstler“.
Another show of contemporary art in historic surroundings. Although I was participating with three objects I didn’t know the place before and had no idea what to expect!
Looks this is going to be a two hours drive…
9.45 – Just passed Bayreuth on the way.
10am – Arrival in Kulmbach, was welcomed by a huge poster to advertise the exhibition. It wasn’t possible to drive up to the castle, so had to park in the town centre and take a shuttle bus.
10.30 – Found the shuttle bus which was crowded! How many visitors will be there? Unfortunately it was raining and I had to believe my neighbor in the bus that the view is usually stunning.
10.45 – Looks like we’re there. What a huge building! So many doors and windows. But where is the exhibition? There is another big poster but no light.
There was light in some of the rooms on the other side!
Yes! There is definitely life in there!
11am – The room for the official part of the opening filled up quickly.
11.15 – Was happy to be able to sit during all the greetings, speeches and music. Many journalists around…
12.00 – Reinhard Bienert (chairman of the association) is giving a present to Dr. Wolfgang Heubisch (Bavarian’s minister of culture).
12.15 – the exhibition itself seems to be in a different part of the castle. Let’s start marching :
I was too curious to walk slowly behind the masses. Where are my cubes???
12.30 – Found them!
12.40 – A wonderful place for modern art. In a few minutes the others will be here and we won’t be able to see much of the artwork. That’s how an opening is probably supposed to be.
I’m very happy to be part of this and am looking with amazement at all the others artworks which are exhibited here: 140 pieces of art created by 76 artists!
A great view what has been going on in the ateliers in Franken last year.
2pm – what’s the weather doing? Time to look for a bus. But I will definitely come back here to look at all this again in peace before the end of the exhibition: 3rd September.
